David C. Lay is a professor at the University at Albany, State University of New York. He completed his M.S. in Mathematics from Arizona State University and his Ph.D. in mathematics from Arizona State University. He, later on, went on to teach at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and spent a decade as a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Lay was also a co-founder of the Association for Symbolic Computation and was awarded a Sloan Fellowship for his work in algebraic computations. In 2008, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
